Mission Statement
The objective of the Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society is to advance the practice of veterinary medicine, promote the profession and encourage the understanding and appreciation of the importance of the unique bond between humans and animals. We do this by providing a forum for the discussion of issues of importance to the profession, pet owners and their pets, developing positions on these issues, promoting professional education and offering services to advance animal health and well-being. We serve as the authorized voice to present the views of the profession in Hillsborough County.
The Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society (HCVMS) is a not-for-profit association representing more than veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia and uniformed services. The HCVMS serves as the collective voice for its membership and for the profession in Hillsborough County.
The HCVMS provides many benefits to its members, including continuing education, information resources, assistance in marketing and managing their private practices, and discounts on personal and professional products, programs and services. In addition, the HCVMS provides valuable professional fellowship and contacts, and an organized voice to address issues and affect local policies that govern the practice of veterinary medicine.
The HCVMS also provides many benefits to the pet owning public, to pet and human health in Hillsborough County, and to a number of animal related programs. Most of our members contribute substantial time and resources to causes of particular interest to them and to their clients. In addition, the HCVMS is considering supporting Nature's Classroom, as well as a pediatric orphaned animal foster program being organized by Hillsborough County Animal Services.
We also are establishing a Speakers Bureau that community groups can call on to provide information and presentations on a variety of timely topics and general interest animal-human stories and issues.
The Veterinarian's Oath
Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly dedicate myself and the knowledge I possess to the benefit of society, to the conservation of our livestock resources and to the relief suffering animals.
I will practice my profession conscientiously with dignity. The health of my patients, the best interest of their owners, and the welfare of my fellow man, will be my primary considerations.
I will, at all times be humane and temper pain with anesthesia where indicated.
I will not use my knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity, nor in contravention to the ethical code of my profession.
I will uphold and strive to advance the honor and noble traditions of the veterinary profession. These pledges I make freely in the eyes of God upon my honor.
